Rapidus Joins Chitose City Nature Coexistence Site Promotion Council～Company will participate in activities to protect the natural environment in areas critical to the conservation of precious water sources～

TOKYO, July 31, 2026 – Rapidus Corporation today announced that it has joined the Chitose City Council for the Promotion of Sites for the Coexistence with Nature. Chitose City defines a site for the coexistence with nature as a zone outside of protected areas such as national parks that contribute to biodiversity conservation and is registered in the international database of other effective area-based conservation measures.

An inaugural meeting of the Chitose City Nature Coexistence Site Promotion Council was held on July 30 to register areas critical for the conservation of the city’s valuable water sources as Nature Coexistence Sites, a program promoted by the Japan government to enable citizens, businesses, organizations and local government to work together to carry out activities that contribute to the maintenance, restoration and creation of biodiversity. Rapidus supports this initiative and will participate in activities.

One of Rapidus’ founding management principles is to drive innovation toward true environmental sustainability, and the company views environmental conservation as one of its key priorities. By participating in this council, Rapidus will actively engage in local environmental conservation efforts by supporting the ecological surveys, cleanup activities and educational programs that Chitose City will conduct in target areas going forward.

The council has selected the area around the headwaters of the Bibi River and the Uchibetsu River as candidates for conservation. In late September, the council plans to submit an application for registration as a site for coexistence with nature to Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, designating the area around the headwaters of the Bibi River as the target area.

The Bibi River is in close proximity to Rapidus’ semiconductor manufacturing facility, Innovative Integration for Manufacturing (IIM-1), and is known for its extensive wetlands, which serve as a habitat for clusters of skunk cabbage. Additionally, the area around the headwaters of the Uchibetsu River is known for its abundant spring water and exceptional water quality. It was previously selected as one of the Japan Ministry of the Environment’s 100 Best Waters.
